The series "Places" takes its inspiration from the painting "The Piano Lesson" by Henri Matisse and in particular its gray and green palette. Intimately linked to the places I have lived or live, the Parisian gray and the greens of the French countryside, this palette is used throughout each of the sixteen large format oils of this series to explore the expression of what I consider to be figurative, imaginative landscapes. The work on the series, interrupted in 2003 by an "exile" of several years, has brought central to "Places" the expression of the maternal figure.
